Family Hobbies – Learning to Paint

From the youngest child to the most mature grandparent, if they can hold a paintbrush, they are able to paint. Imagine the memories you will create when gathered round the table painting. What child does not love escaping . the watercolor kits and doodling in their own art pad. Why not include everyone? Adults need creativity time too. Here are some tips to keep this hobby enjoyable for everyone.

First, arrange all your supplies ahead of time. Understand that you are trying to spend fun and memorable times together. You don’t wish to be running for paper towels, paint, water trays or other supplies; you want to be painting too! Have plenty of brushes, water, paper towels, paint, paper or canvases as well as your project to paint nearby. Do not forget to protect your work surface or tabletop with a plastic disposable tablecloth aswell. We don’t want to stress over a little spilled paint, now do we?

Second, have a project designated for every family member. If you simply lay out all of the supplies haphazardly people will be overwhelmed and not know where to begin. Projects should suit the age level of the household member. For the youngster it might be simply painting a variety of colors, but the teenagers should have some direction concerning “what” they should focus on. Adults may chose to all work on exactly the same project. I’ve found that watching how differently the “same” project turns out is merely amazing and fun.

Finally, don’t make rules. Let your family create whatever they want should they have come up with their own projects. If they thought we would follow a designated project then fine, if not then so be it. Usually do not get this to hobby about correct or incorrect. Keep every ones artistic juices flowing by encouraging self-expressionism.
